South Bristol Skills Academy

Elite 60 uPVC Trunking

SOUTH BRISTOL SKILLS ACADEMY

Marco, the UK’s largest manufacturer of Steel Wire Cable Tray, and uPVC Cable Management Company, has supplied over 1,000 meters of its Elite 60 Trunking at the new £30million South Bristol Skills Academy in Hengrove.

Marco’s Elite 60 Trunking was utilised across the building, with the clean lines and modern fresh appearance sitting well in the overall design of the facility. The largest of Marco’s new Elite range, the Elite 60 trunking system has been designed to cope with installations requiring a greater number of power and high density structured cabling systems; such as CAT5E, CAT6, CAT7, Shielded and the new CAT6A 10 gig solution. The specification was essential at this scheme due to the considerable number of Cat 6 cables required to feed the client’s network infrastructure.

Supplying directly to M&E contractors, MITIE Engineering Bristol, the state of the art building has recently been handed over on time by the main contractor Cowlin, to open in time for the new academic year. The impressive four-storey building’s design was inspired by an aircraft hangar and reflects the two halves of the brain. The two areas of the building are separated by a large, light atrium and are linked by bridges at each level. At the hub of the Skills Academy is a winter garden and terrace, where students and staff can meet and socialise.

The new Skills Academy is part of the colleges’ drive to develop 21st century facilities at all of its sites, and is designed to complement the new Hartcliffe Community Campus. As well as catering for the needs of young people, its work will also focus on older students, helping them develop skills as well as providing opportunities to retrain. The partnership driving this initiative forward includes major employers in the city, as well as local, regional and national educational agencies.
